Outback Writers' Centre

The Outback Writers' Centre provides writers in the Orana region with opportunities to develop their knowledge, understanding and practice in all aspects of writing.

Our aim is to build a vibrant writing and publishing culture in the Western area of New South Wales.

Funded by Dubbo Regional Council

The Outback Writers' Centre proudly presents SIX creative writing FREE WORKSHOPS on the first Saturday of the month, at 11am at our Orana Hub Writers' Meetings from  January 2026 to June 2026.

The second in the series will be presented by an experienced and published author on the topic of:  "Editing Your Own Work"

All writers are invited to join us in the music room at the Western Plains Cultural Centre at 11am for the free workshops.

Alternatively, you can arrive at 10am to join us for our entire Orana Hub Writer's Meeting, please feel welcome to bring along 8 or more copies of a short piece (approx 300 words) and/or a long piece (under 1500 words,) of writing you would like to read to the group for gentle critique.

TIME: Arrive 11am for the workshop only, or 10am to join us in our Orana Hub Writers' Meeting.

Dubbo Writers' Festival

Our last Dubbo Writers' Festival was in 2024. Our co-ordinator Val Clark, after 10 years of service voluntarily running the festival, has retired. As a result, for the foreseeable future, the festival will not be held.
